News - Cil GRCA National
Rescue Committee honors GB President Cil Henson with the
Starfish Award
The
National Rescue Committee of the Golden Retriever Club of
America has announced that our own Cil Henson is the recipient
of the 2009 Starfish Award. The presentation of the Awards will
occur in September 2010 at Goldstock in Pennsylvania and then
again at the GRCA National Specialty Show in Greeley, Colorado
and GB representatives will be present for both. Cil Henson
isn't one to "pull rank". Cil handles a great deal of the intake
and takes calls night and day, 7 days a week. GB volunteers
wonder when she sleeps, and say of Cil " she embodies trust,
integrity, sincerity, commitment and stamina" and she leads by
example....gently
wrapping her arms around each intake and whispering "It's going
to be okay". The award is given for work in the past year, and
Cil is recognized for her sustained and enduring work to rescue
Golden Retrievers on the 10th anniversary of Golden Beginnings.
Congratulations and thank you Cil!

News - A Letter From Iraq
This
is to the wonderful people of Golden Beginnings.
I cannot thank you enough for all the cards and care packages
that you have sent to Iraq. For soldiers it really hits home
when we get mail from strangers. It lets us all know that
someone truly cares about our efforts. and makes us even more
proud to serve in the Army fighting for freedom. It may just be
a card or a box of goodies, books or toothpaste but it comes
from the heart and makes us feel appreciated.
From having foster dogs at our house for many years, and
presently being owned by Bevo, I personally know, understand,
and appreciate the purpose of Golden Beginnings, however now I
am also aware of the golden hearts way beyond all the dog hair
of the organization.
While I sincerely wanted to reply to every card and package from
GB, during our last move some addresses got lost, so if you did
not receive a personal reply from me, please except this as my
heartfelt thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I attached two pictures of
welcome home hugs, it was late at night when we finally got back
to Houston and Bevo’s bones were aching so I got down to his
level , but it did not last for long, he sprang to his feet, and
if wagging tails could speak, he would also be thanking Golden
Beginnings.

News - "GB in the News"
Golden Beginnings Golden Retriever Rescue was recently the
subject of a
wonderful article by Jennifer Moody in the local magazine
"Houston Lifestyles and Homes" and all of its area publications
(which have a combined circulation of 200,000! Talk about
community outreach!) Jennifer wrote the article on our group and
its 10th anniversary celebration and picnic at Geroge Bush Park
last November, and included lots of great photos and information
on rescue. GB has already received an increased number of
inquiries as a result.
Thank you Jennifer!
