Woody - Golden Beginnings Golden Retriever Rescue - Rainbow Bridge

It is with a heavy heart that I tell you that we eased Woody to the Rainbow Bridge yesterday. Woody came to us in April 2015 when Golden Beginnings asked Ken and me to pick up a stray from a Good Samaritan on a Sunday afternoon. My first comment was “Well, this is a spaniel” ?? Woody was elderly with heart worms, blind and deaf. A crotchety old man…Gus and Ben were always wonderful with him! He ate out of their bowls (while they would give me “mom!” looks) and always laid so still as he would stumble and crawl over them. He would grumble and growl at them when he got caught in a storm of wagging tails!

Ken and I thought at one time he was someone’s beloved companion as he was neutered and microchipped. I often asked him if he had had a momma or a papa. It was unfair that in the twilight of his life he was “lost” and we spoke of different scenarios of his life’s story. In the end I feel good to know that he died peacefully with hugs and words of love and that people cried at his passing. Run old man like you haven’t done in a long time, look at the trees and sky, listen to the other animals and perhaps run to your original owner. Remember us too a little when we see you again.
